Reiki for Self-Healing
A Gentle Daily Practice
One of the loveliest things about Reiki is that you need not always receive it from someone else. Once attuned, a practitioner can offer Reiki to themselves, a simple, soothing daily practice of resting the hands on the body and letting calm settle in.
And even without formal training, the gentle act of laying your own warm hands on yourself with kind attention is a genuine comfort. Here is how self-Reiki works, and how to begin.

What Is Self-Reiki?
Self-Reiki is simply Reiki offered to oneself: resting your own hands on or near your body, moving gently through a series of positions, and allowing yourself to relax deeply. For those who have taken the first level of Reiki, it is the natural daily practice that training opens up, often the very reason people learn Reiki in the first place.
It asks for nothing but a few quiet minutes and a willingness to pause.

A Note for Everyone
In the tradition, the ability to channel Reiki is given through attunement with a teacher, so self-Reiki in the full sense follows first-level training. But the simpler heart of the practice, placing your warm hands on yourself with care and breathing slowly, is something anyone can do, and it is genuinely calming, whatever one believes about energy.
Comforting, attentive self-touch and slow breathing soothe the nervous system on their own, so you are welcome to enjoy that gentleness even without any training at all.
A Simple Self-Treatment Practice
Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lie down. Take a few slow breaths to settle, then rest your hands gently, moving through these positions and pausing at each for a few minutes:
- Over the eyes and forehead, cupping the face softly, to ease a busy mind.
- On the crown or the back of the head, cradling it gently.
- At the throat or upper chest, hands resting lightly.
- Over the heart, letting warmth gather there.
- On the belly, following the rise and fall of the breath.
- Wherever else calls to you, letting your hands rest where your body would like a little attention.
Throughout, breathe slowly and let your attention rest under your hands. There is nothing to force; simply warmth, breath, and kind attention.
Making It a Daily Ritual
Self-Reiki is at its best as a small daily habit, a few minutes in the morning to begin the day gently, or in the evening to set it down. Like any practice, its quiet benefits, calm, steadiness, a feeling of being cared for, gather with repetition. Even five minutes, returned to most days, becomes a reliable island of peace.
